The Winston-Salem Foundation Annual Report
Leveraging core values to strengthen understanding
A Generous Community
The Winston-Salem Foundation was established in 1919 as the first foundation in the state of North Carolina and is now comprised of over 1,000 funds established by charitable individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations. With a mission to make philanthropy and its benefits available to all, the organization is guided by four core values: generosity, integrity, inclusiveness, and excellence.
Annual reports are often a missed opportunity for organizations to share with various constituent audiences not only what they do, but why they do it. When first approached by The Winston-Salem Foundation to develop their annual report, we recognized the opportunity to leverage the Foundation’s core values through stories in a way that had not been done before. Each year since our first report in 2004, we have told the stories that capture the Foundation’s core values and make clear the potential for every individual to impact the community through philanthropy.
The annual reports have received multiple gold, bronze and silver awards in the annual Council on Foundations Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program for Excellence.
